The most frequently asked questions on our guided tours
Preferably not at all. For us, urban development is an ongoing process with plenty of room for transformation and diversity. The exciting transformation of Werksviertel is almost complete with its commercial buildings and is now moving on to the construction of the residential buildings. But even when all the buildings are completed one day, there will always be new life and new ideas in Werksviertel-Mitte to surprise visitors.
Unfortunately, this is not possible. The Stadt-Hochalm on the roof of WERK3 is an extraordinary urban habitat but also a protected area for animals and part of the sustainability concept in our urban quarter. The alp is the heart of our alp school, where children and young people are sensitized to sustainability issues in workshops in a playful and above all practical way. The Stadt-Hochalm and therefore also our sheep, which keep the grass short there, can only be visited as part of a few guided tours – also out of respect for the animals’ needs.
The UMADUM Ferris wheel travels once around its own axis in around 25 minutes, giving guests a unique view of Werksviertel, the city of Munich and, on a clear day, even the Alps. Incidentally, the electricity used to power the Ferris wheel is generated just a few meters away in the energy center at WERK1. The largest transportable Ferris wheel in the world can be completely dismantled, loaded into shipping containers and transported anywhere.
The historic Pfanni Museum in the ECKhaus tells the family and brand history of the former dumpling factory and is open 24/7. Among other things, you will find old pictures showing how the industrial site grew. And if you look closely, you will discover how some of the buildings that are now in Werksviertel-Mitte used to be warehouses or production halls. There are also numerous Pfanni exhibits, such as old packaging, and the people who once worked here have their say. We look forward to your visit!
The creative pop-up city is an interim use and will mark the entrance to Werksviertel-Mitte for a few more years. Due to its flexible use, the containers can spontaneously give way to any new building and be reassembled at another location. If we find a suitable space, they will hopefully stay with us forever.
Around 600 apartments are being built on the Werksviertel-Mitte site. Here, too, we are trying to create a special neighborhood through special architecture and communal and meeting areas that have been designed from the outset. This also means that the apartments in Werksviertel-Mitte will not be sold, i.e. converted into condominiums. All apartments will be rented out after completion. You can find out more about the residential development at Werksviertel-Mitte here.
There are two reasons for this. There is an underground parking garage under Knödelplatz. As a result, there is only a small amount of soil, which is not sufficient for trees to grow healthy and strong here. In addition, Knödelplatz is a huge open-air stage for various events, such as concerts and festivals. If you like, Knödelplatz is the “marketplace” in Werksviertel-Mitte. Fortunately, Werksviertel will become even greener in some places in the future or already is. For example, at Piusanger, in our neighborhood park, which will soon be built, or at the Bahnbogen, where trees are scattered across the area. However, they must and will grow.
