Living sustainability in Werksviertel.

The DAY OF HOPE will take place for the second time on May 16, 2024 at Werksviertel-Mitte. From 10 am to 4 pm, there will be an extensive program on this day with many free hands-on and information offers and the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of a sustainable urban district operation.

Points of contact such as the WHEEL OF HOPE, the STAGE OF HOPE and the MARKET OF HOPE will focus on different topics. The aim of the day is to sensitize students and Munich residents to the topic of sustainability in a practical way and to inspire them to make their lives more sustainable today.

Everyone can do something

.
If there is such a thing as a central message of the DAY OF HOPE, then this is it. The motivation to organize such a day at Werksviertel-Mitte has a lot to do with the ideas that have been used to sustainably transform the urban quarter for years. “We want to be a role model in Munich and throughout Germany for how sustainability can be implemented holistically in an urban quarter,” says Nina Bovensiepen, company spokesperson for Werksviertel-Mitte. For example, through consistent construction in existing buildings, its own decentralized energy management, a climate protection alliance that bundles and coordinates the sustainability efforts of local entrepreneurs and tenants, the integration of social initiatives into the district’s operations, or the mobility concept with its own sharing offers. The Werksviertel-Mitte also invests in sustainable educational opportunities for children and young people, such as the Almschule, a city pasture with sheep on the roof of WERK3.

In terms of content, the DAY OF HOPE builds on the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations’ Agenda 2030, which the DAY OF HOPE approaches in a playful and informative way, with the traffic signs of justice subtly raising awareness for a more humane coexistence without war, racism and injustice. Tree sponsorships are climbed with activities such as climbing for cohesion in the HeavensGate climbing and bouldering hall. At the “Schibbeln fürs Essen”, initiated by the Community Kitchen, the fight against food waste is declared. And Kicking for Justice, in collaboration with the initiativebuntkicktgut, is all about fair cooperation and healthy exercise. Not only the tenants at Werksviertel-Mitte, but also associations, initiatives and companies from all over Munich will be presenting their sustainability ideas at the DAY OF HOPE.

The focus is on the three sustainability goals

  • Sustainable consumption
  • High-quality education
  • and affordable, clean energy
  • .

The ideas and projects will be presented in a wide variety of formats and on a wide variety of stages. On this day, the UMADUM Ferris wheel will be transformed into the WHEEL OF HOPE, whose gondolas will be used for presentations. At the MARKET OF HOPE, school initiatives, associations and start-ups will present their ideas and work and invite visitors to try them out and get involved. And the WERK7 theater will become the STAGE OF HOPE with lectures, impulses, artistic and musical performances as well as film contributions on the topic of sustainability. Together, this will result in a varied program that will provide numerous experiences and impressions for young and old and hopefully inspire them to actively shape our future in a sustainable way. No matter how big your own contribution may be, everyone can do something. Attendance at the DAY OF HOPE and the supporting program are free of charge.
