WERK4
With a height of 86 meters, WERK4 is an impressive landmark in Werksviertel-Mitte and a unique building in Europe.
It combines around 1000 hotel and hostel beds, 3 bars and cafés, a fine dining restaurant with modern Australian cuisine, a climbing and bouldering hall with indoor climbing routes up to 30 meters high as well as spa and wellness facilities with a breathtaking view over Munich and the Alps.
The impressive construction is based on the old solid potato flake silos from the Pfanni factory. They were already being used as a climbing hall with inclusive facilities during their interim use. As part of the extension of WERK4, the hall was modernized and expanded to include event rooms and an outdoor climbing facility. Like WERK3, the building reflects the urban development strategy: the old structure is repurposed and supplemented; existing uses are retained. Finally, the perforated metal elements of the WERK4 façade hint at the history of the district: they are derived from the vibrating plates that were used to sort potatoes. In WERK4, they serve as sun protection and create intimacy.
