Munich, 16.09.2024 - Since July 2024, a 16.5-metre-high parking tower has been under construction at Werksviertel-Mitte in Munich, redefining the boundaries between art, architecture and mobility. Together with us as a neighborhood, VePa Vertical Parking GmbH and Werksviertel-Mitte Kunst, the project will not only offer an innovative parking solution, but also represent a public work of art.

An innovative project for the Werksviertel-Mitte

The parking tower is being built in the middle of the Container Collective on Friedenstrasse. The Werksviertel-Mitte is a long-term urban project and we are proud to have been awarded the German Urban Development Prize in 2023. The Park Tower is a fitting example of how we at Werksviertel-Mitte turn innovative ideas into reality.

Sustainability meets art and mobility

Only when economy, ecology and social issues work in harmony with each other can true sustainability be achieved. We act according to these principles and this is what sets us apart as a district.

The Munich-based start-up Vepa Vertical Parking GmbH stands for resource-saving, sustainable, space-saving and energy-efficient parking solutions. When we were approached by the young company, it quickly became clear that they also operate according to our principles.

Together with the Munich-based start-up, we are pursuing the vision of flexible and efficient parking solutions that combine the increasing demand for urban mobility with the desire for more open space for people and nature.

How we are doing something for sustainability together:</strong

  • Economy: The parking tower creates 12 parking spaces on 49 square meters including charging infrastructure. Due to the small footprint, less space needs to be sealed. Construction costs can also be reduced.</li
  • On the ecological side, the absence of resource-intensive underground parking structures and the small construction area creates space for more green areas and unsealed surfaces. Biodiversity increases and we make a contribution to environmental protection.</li
  • Social: Werksviertel-Mitte Kunst is responsible for the tower design. The artistic design of the tower was awarded as part of the tender for the quarter’s own studio funding program.</li

On September 12, the jury meeting took place, which had to decide on very good submissions. In the end, the design entitled “Zusammen_hang” by Mariella Kerscher came out on top. The design is expected to be on display at the beginning of 2025 – we are looking forward to seeing the finished product!
