WERK12
WERK12, designed by the renowned Dutch architecture firm MVRDV, reflects the industrial past and the Werksviertel's departure into the future.
The multifunctional new building was designed by Dutch architects MVRDV. Completed in 2019, WERK12 houses a gym with a 25-metre swimming pool, offices, restaurants and various nightclubs. A special design element can be found in the surrounding façade: five-metre-high letters with terms from the universally understandable comic language such as WOW, AAHHH or HMPF are integrated into it, which directly address the visitors of Werksviertel-Mitte. The art on the building was the result of a competition organized by the client OTEC together with the Academy of Arts in Munich, which was won by the artist Beate Engl and her studio colleague Christian Engelmann.
In 2021, WERK12 was awarded the DAM prize for “Best Building in Germany”.
