WERK17
"Berg am Laim". The name of the surrounding district still contains a reference to the clay mining and brick production that took place here for many centuries.
The reddish-brown façade of the newly built WERK17 in Werksviertel-Mitte references the history of Munich as a city of clay and the vibrant surfaces of its historic brick buildings. The sophisticated architecture and modern production technology give no hint that this is actually a modular, rational “prefabricated building”. A hotel, two restaurants and a delicatessen enliven the building, which also houses an underground garage with over 300 parking spaces for cars and bicycles. Biotopes for insects and birds, which are not open to the public, have also been established on the roofs of the building.
In 2021, WERK17 received recognition at the German Brick Award.
