2025
International Architecture Award
Our neighborhood was awarded the prestigious International Architecture Award 2025 in the Urban Planning / Landscape Architecture category.
The prize is awarded by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and is considered one of the most important international awards for outstanding architecture and urban planning worldwide.
Our neighborhood was selected by an international jury from hundreds of projects from all over the world. A strong sign of the special mix of innovative urban development, creative use and urban life here in the heart of Munich.

Core77 Design Awards
The Werksviertel-Mitte was honored at the Core77 Design Awards 2025 in the Professional Built Environment category.
The design by Johannes Ernst (Steidle Architekten) impressed the international jury with its exemplary transformation of a former industrial site into a vibrant, multifaceted urban quarter for living, working, culture and encounters.
A big thank you to all the planners, participants and supporters – and to the jury headed by Bryan Chou (Mikyoung Kim) for this recognition!
Werksviertel-Mitte wins the special prize “Places for good coexistence”
We were awarded the Prize for Building Culture 2025 in the category “Places for Good Living Together”! The prize, awarded by the European Metropolitan Region Munich e.V., honors projects that impress with sustainable urban development, high quality of stay and innovative usage concepts. Under the motto “Transformation with quality”, neighborhoods and districts are honored that contribute in a special way to the positive development of the metropolitan region.
2024
MIPIM Award 2024: We were there
With around 20,000 participants from 80 countries, MIPIM is one of the most important international real estate trade fairs. The MIPIM Awards presented at the trade fair are therefore also regarded as the OSCARS of the real estate industry. In the “best conversion” category, WERK4 from Munich-based Werksviertel-Mitte was among the finalists.
2023
German Urban Development Award for the WERKSVIERTEL
In 2023, the WERKSVIERTEL was awarded the German Urban Development Prize. The prize was awarded to us by the German Academy for Urban Development and Landscape Planning e.V.

2021
DAM Prize 2021 for the WERK12
In 2021, WERK12 was awarded the DAM Prize for the best building in Germany. The prize was awarded to us by the German Architecture Museum.
Special award for building culture “Places for good coexistence”
The Container Collective was conceived from the outset as a place for people to meet and live together – and has now received the appropriate award in the form of the Special Prize for Building Culture.
State Prize of the Bavarian State Government – WERK3 wins the “Bauen im Bestand 2021” prize
“Building in existing contexts” is a special challenge for clients and architects. In Werksviertel-Mitte, it was mastered excellently with WERK3 in the opinion of the Bavarian Chamber of Architects. On July 29, 2021, the Chamber awarded the transformation of the former dumpling factory into a lively multifunctional building with offices, stores, studios and numerous restaurants. WERK3 also received the Bavarian State Prize for “Bauen im Bestand 2021” from the Bavarian State Government.
Recognition of the German Brick Award WERK17
Good architecture always tells a story. The story of WERK17 deals with the site’s past – the brick façade skillfully picks up on the site’s history as a clay mining area. And has received recognition for this at the German Brick Award.
2019
Leaders Club Award: Bronze Palm
The Bronze Palm for the gastronomy concept at Werksviertel-Mitte. Under the motto “The diversity of something special”, those responsible at Werksviertel-Mitte have made it their mission to realize this diversity in all aspects. This extends to all important areas of life. The aim is to create a place that offers something for all ages and budgets around the clock – and this is also appreciated by the jury of the Leaders Club Award, which honors particularly unique gastronomy concepts.
Star of the Year – WERK12
The Star of the Year is awarded by the Abendzeitung in various categories. The winners come from the fields of art, music, opera, theater, literature, architecture and film. The WERK12 was honored for the spectacular collaboration between several institutions that have created a unique building.
