What is the WERKmagazin?
WERKmagazin deals with current social issues, often in connection with the megatrends of our time and sustainable neighbourhood and urban development, as realized in Werksviertel-Mitte. We present diverse perspectives and personalities who think ahead and critically question the status quo. The result is both entertaining and thought-provoking about future possibilities.
The new WERKmagazin IX - How do you look after your future?
The 9th issue of our WERKmagazin focuses on the future. In Werksviertel, the future is a firmly anchored guiding star, because our goal is to develop a neighborhood that is suitable for our grandchildren. In other words, a district that will also offer future generations the joy of living and opportunities to shape the future. But how do you shape the future?
In our magazine, we start by exploring the question of how the future actually comes about. The most important finding: it is man-made and much less fateful than we thought. So it’s high time to finally take care of the future.
The interview with Munich city planning councillor Prof. Dr (Univ. Florenz) Elisabeth Merk is exciting to read. She explains the different time and future levels in which urban planners have to operate in order to work successfully.
We will also look at how the principle of grandchild suitability influences the planning and design of Werksviertel. And what this concept does to the people who are responsible for the neighborhood.
No future without imagination But imagination alone does not create a new world, as Werner Eckart knows. In his essay, he writes about the impact of intergenerational solidarity, the power of creativity and the all-important but often neglected “getting into action”.
Generations. What connects them and what separates them. We were curious to find out how people from different generations view the past and future of Werksviertels and asked a former Pfanni employee, a hairdresser from the wild days of interim use and a young barista and dancer to talk to us.
The special dynamic that looking into the future demands of everyone is again exemplified by our settlers, who explain how they deal with the future, what goals they are pursuing and what forecasts for the future they are looking forward to.
